“My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.” – 1 John 2:1

The depth of the Father’s love for us is so inspiring. He sent Jesus to die for us, raised Him from the dead, and appointed Him as our advocate against the devil, who is described in the Scripture as the accuser of God’s people. That’s why John said “the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night” (Revelation 12:10).

Each time the devil tries to accuse you and make you feel undeserving of God’s blessings, Jesus; your advocate with the Father speaks in your defense-He pleads your case! What a blessing! The Bible says His blood speaks better things than the blood of Abel (Hebrews 12:24). His blood continually speaks on your behalf, washing you clean from all unrighteousness and every stain of sin (1 John 1:17-9) so you can keep running your race of faith with a clear conscience.

There are folks who say that since Jesus went to heaven, He’s been kneeling down and begging the Father on our behalf to have mercy on us because of our sins; that’s not true! That’s not what He’s doing as our advocate. Jesus is not in heaven trying to defend you from the Father’s wrath, for the Father Himself loves you (John 16:27). Thus He’s there to present you holy and without blame before the Father (Colossians 1:22).

The Father ordained Jesus to be our advocate – counsel for the defense. With Him on your side, it’s impossible for you to be defeated or disadvantaged. The enemy may throw his darts of condemnation at you, and try to get you to feel guilty and inferior before God, but all you need do is laugh him to scorn and say, “Jesus, my Advocate with the Father, has justified me and presented me holy, unblameable and unreproveable before the Father.”

Don’t ever get in an argument with the devil when he comes to you with his railing accusations. Just be conscience of your identity as the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus, who also is your advocate before the Father.
