But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light – 1 Peter 2:9

The Bible describes those who are born again as a chosen breed, a chosen species, a new type of people—God’s dream people. This is what God longed for when He told the Jewish nation, “If you obey my voice, I’ll make you a peculiar treasure, a peculiar people, a kingdom of priests, a holy nation” (Exodus 19:5). Now, we are God’s dream fulfilled, and we didn’t have to sweat or struggle for it. We didn’t beg for it or do anything by ourselves to earn it; the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ conferred it on us. We got it by inheritance!

Notice 1 Peter 2:9 says, “ye are a chosen generation” and not, “ye shall be a chosen generation.” Having been born again, we’ve become God’s peculiar treasure, His royal and chosen breed. When 1 Peter 2:9 says, “ye are a chosen generation,” it’s important for us to observe the word “generation” which is derived from the root-word “gene.” A gene is the basic unit of heredity in a living organism. All living things depend on genes. Genes hold the information to build and maintain an organism’s cells and pass genetic traits from parent to offspring. They determine the physical, mental and other characteristics an individual inherits from his parents.

Thus, when God described the new creation as a chosen generation, He meant that he belongs to a new generation of supermen with divine genetic material! This means you have God’s DNA in you. No wonder the Bible says we are more than conquerors (Romans 8:37); your lineage is the lineage of champions and victors. This is the reason you must refuse failure, sickness and defeat.

Someone says, “Well, I got the allergy from my dad’s genes.” No! You have new genes that came from your heavenly Father. Now that you’re in Christ, you’re a new creation; old things are passed away and all things have become new! (2Corinthiands 5:17)
Jesus didn’t die to produce a people that are sickly, weak, despondent and poor. He didn’t die to produce victims and failures. He died to raise up a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a peculiar people, a holy nation—a new race. You belong in that new race and it’s the superior race of supermen in Christ.
