For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, the just shall live by faith – Romans 1:16-17
The written Word of God is the revelation of God delivered to us, that we might be filled with the knowledge of His will, and understand the life of righteousness He’s brought us into. This means our thinking and perspective on everything and in every situation, should be from the standpoint of His righteousness. It should be God’s interpretation, and not from man’s perspective. When you have this mind-set, it makes no difference the challenges you face, what or who offends you, you’ll respond in love, conscious that you’re the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus.
Consider the Lord Jesus: He responded in love to His accusers and wouldn’t rail back at them. He prayed to God for them, saying, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” Can you think like that about someone who has offended you? That’s how God wants you to respond to your detractors; not as a mere man but as the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. He wants the Gospel of Christ, in which the righteousness of God is revealed, to be fully expressed in and through you.
Refuse to allow anything else express itself through you; not even the pervading culture of your environment. Let the culture of the Gospel of Jesus Christ be expressed through you. Have that dominion.
Imagine being in a traffic situation and a careless driver rams into your car. Would you impulsively rain invectives at him for his action? That wouldn’t be the Christ-like response. It’s important that you don’t respond to people in anger or bitterness. It doesn’t matter what someone says or does to you, let the righteousness of Christ—His love-nature influence and dominate your actions.
