“Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked” – Ephesians 6:16
Our opening verse says “above all, taking the shield of faith…” Why does it say “above all?” This means this is one part of the armor that is absolutely indispensable – the one you must not forget to put on! When soldiers went to war in the Bible days, the shield was their defense against the swords, spears and arrows of the enemy. Without the shield, the soldiers were vulnerable to the fatal attacks of the enemy.
With this in mind, the Spirit tells you to take up the shield of faith, so you would be able to extinguish all the devil’s fiery arrows. He didn’t say “pray to God to protect you from the fiery arrows”. Rather, He says “with that shield, you (not God) would have the inherent ability to neutralize completely all (not some) of the fiery darts of the devil!” In other words, it makes no difference what the enemy throws at you; they’ll all bounce off that shield!
When the enemy throws the darts of fear, your faith will neutralize them and you can declare “I refuse to fear, because the Greater One lives in me!” If the darts of sickness, your faith would neutralize them and you will respond, “I refuse to be sick my body is the temple of the Holy Ghost!” Can you see why faith is so important? Without it, you are like a soldier without protection in the battlefront.
Always remember that your shield of faith must always be activated; the fight of faith is on every day. With faith as your shield, you’re sure to live victoriously every day.
